Hebrew Poetry Parallelisms
Due Date: 11/26/2007
You will need to find two examples of each of the parallelisms (synonymous, antithetic, comparative, climactic, and synthetic) that we discussed in class. You will also need to find one example of each of the figures of speech (simile, metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche, personification, and hyperbole) that we discussed in class. You may not use the examples given in class.
The examples should be clearly marked and each passage written out. Remember the parallelisms will only be found in the Old Testament in the poetry sections where as the figures of speech can be found anywhere through out scripture.
Below is an example of what I am expecting for each parallelism and figure of speech.
Synonymous Parallelism
Ps 49:1
Hear this, all ye people;
Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world
Ps 103:14
For he knows our frame
He remembers that we are dust
